Undercover Book 1
Childhood
This book addresses the issues of being a transgender girl who is not able or allowed. to transition. This includes bullies, harassment, and physical, emotional, and medical problems.
In the early years, a transgender girl knows that she’s a girl inside, in her brain, in how she thinks and acts. She doesn’t act like a boy, she doesn’t think like a boy, and doesn’t want to be a boy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long to learn that she must keep this a deep secret, for if her secret is discovered, terrible things can and do happen. Of course, sometimes you can’t hide the girl inside, and sometimes, the hiding and lies are far worse than the truth.
Rex must go to great lengths to protect his secret that he is a girl inside. It’s bad enough that he is too “girly,” and the boys think he’s a “sissy.” He gets bullied regularly and violently. This book covers the coping strategies used to survive bullying and worse. Rex reaches out for help, telling his parents who ignore him, even a psychologist who tells him never to speak of it again, and tries to talk him into accepting that he is a boy on the outside and must stay that way regardless of the girl on the inside.
